Yesterday, for the first time in over 35 years, buses took to the streets of Waterbury on a Sunday. 10 buses provided service on 16 routes between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and about 960 riders took advantage of the service. Here are some photos of the buses taken Sunday morning.

A few minutes before 9:00 AM, CT Transit bus A121 became the first bus to pull out for service on a Sunday in Waterbury since the early 1970's.

So do you know which of the 16 routes take to the streets on Sunday?

Other than that, it's baby steps towards ALL bus companies getting what it deserves:

SERVICE ON SUNDAYS!

Suffolk Transit could use Sunday service now the way things are nowadays.

Those are some good-looking 35' RTS's; nice clean color scheme.
Thanks, Bill!

The 10 buses operate as follows on Sunday:

1) 11 Willow St.-Overlook / 27-28 East Main St.-Reidville-Scott Rd.
2 & 3) 13 Oakville-Fairmount / 25 Meriden Rd.-Hitchcock Lake
4) 15 Bucks Hill-Farmcrest Dr. / 35 Townplot-New Haven Av.
5) 16 Bucks Hill-Montoe Rd. / 36 Townplot-Bradley Av.
6) 18 Long Hill-Berkeley / 42 Chase Parkway
7) 20 Walnut St. / 40 Townplot-Highland Av.
8 & 9) 22 Wolcott St.-Brass Mill Center / 45 Watertown
10) 33 Baldwin St. / 44 Bunker Hill

Updated schedues have been posted at the CT Transit web site: http://www.cttransit.com/content/routesWaterbury.asp

The response from the public is extremely gratifying. People I spoke to are thrilled that they now have a means to get around on Sunday and not be isolated at home. Let's hope that the trend does spread!

I've always preferred the multi-color scheme over the newer blue one. Just a note: the advertising wrap on bus A120 (Mc Donald's) was installed this past Saturday, and this was the first appearance of the bus in its' "new look".
