Seen at the height of cherry blossom season 1959 somewhere in our nation's capital is fleet # 4825 - a 1940 44 passenger Mack Model 'Improved' CM-3G and one of 168 likenesses delivered to the then Capital Transit Company in increments between 1940 and 1942 but now dressed in successor DC Transit livery.

The 'improvement' noted above relates to #1825's angled windshield but not to the fact that it and its ilk were factory stretched by one window from 40 to 44 passengers.

The very popular CM series, with a record 1879 copies built between 1939 and 1943, gained power from a 611 cubic inch, 160 hp. 6 cylinder Mack Model EP gasoline engine mounted transversely at the rear combined with a three speed mechanical transmission using an air clutch which eliminated the clutch pedal and made for a smoother ride.

The rather large ventilator seen just under the third passenger window exhausts stale air from the interior that has been mechanically circulated from fresh air intakes to either side of the destination sign.

#4825, which is in pretty good shape for its age, is decorated to party with the only question being whether for Democrats or Republicans!
