Hello, first time poster, first time bus owner here. I picked up a converted Eagle in June, the bus is in great shape for it's age with all systems working fairly well. There are some things here and there that need attention, but overall it's reliable.
The one thing that is driving us crazy is the fact that we can't keep the bus cool while on the road. It has a 3 ton residential unit in a bay and 1 roof unit on top. The AC will freeze us out of there quickly when parked but can't keep up while underway.
The issue is that heat is coming in from outside the bus, through what appears to be vents/registers in the floor. There are a couple of those near the back lounge that we stuffed with insulation and covered with plywood but now the heat is coming in through other vents in the walls and floor.
The heat doesn't blow when stopped, only when we're moving. I'm guessing that it is wind/motor heat coming in and not necessarily a fan/blower pushing it inside.
There is a diesel fired central heater on board, so I'm all for completely disabling whatever could be causing this since I have access to a heat system independent from the bus itself.
Does anyone have any idea where I should start in trying to fix this? Heat and a bunch of Florida boys don't get along well lol.
Thanks!

jrsmiles,
In my capacity as welcoming committee let me just do that first before we get to the business at hand by saying glad to have you aboard and we look forward to your input and experiences.
Sounds to me very much liked faulty air dampers which could be the result of a bad vacuum power servo unit.
Your BTU capacity sounds as though you could cool the Empire State Building!
See if there may be 'Climate Control' associated with your systems in some way that directs either heated or cooled air as desired.
That's about all I can come up with.
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |

jrsmiles,
I'm not familiar with Eagles but it sounds like you are getting hot water into the heater core and when the bus is moving there is fresh air intake somewhere that is allowing enough air flow to push some of the heat through the system.
Since you don't need the bus heaters to work the easiest solution would be to turn of the hot water supply. The only thing I could find on line is that there are 4 shut off valves. Three in the engine compartment and one under the long floor hatch over the engine.
Also, here is a link to an Eagle tech forum that may have the answer.
