In this 1971 scene at the Cotton Street Trolley Barn of El Paso City Lines division of National City Lines, Inc. (NCL) we see an unnumbered overhead trolley wire maintenance truck mounted on a 1938 International Cab Over Engine chassis model D-400 and originally purchased in that year by the then El Paso Electric Company of El Paso Texas.
It might come as a surprise to see an overhead wire maintenance truck still on the active list anywhere in the U.S. in 1971 but NCL, the successor to El Paso Electric, continued trolley services into 1974 including its 'south of the border' route to Juarez, Mexico for which our focus vehicle carries an 'Internacional' permit attached to its regular license plate.
International's 'D' line of chassis, which were introduced in 1937 were the company's first attempt at a C.O.E. design and were an immediate success and became the underpinnings of choice to carry the custom bodies of the Railway Express Agency - then, the nations number one package delivery service.

I was not aware that streetcars lasted beyond the early sixties in El Paso. Hrm...
