Gentlemen:

Just came across this wonderful early 1950's view of the 3rd Avenue El (Canal St.); note the WHITE running under the elevated tracks.......

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,

Here's a more presentable image of your White on Third Avenue but it is not a B&O Train Connection - possible a Red and Tan commuter that came through the Holland Tunnel (the B&O's had sliding windows).

You're not aware of it but you picked up another little piece of history along the way;

Parked directly across the street from the White is an early twenties Walker Electric Railway Express Truck touting the then new Marlboro filter cigarettes (Railway Express had a big ad contract with the Camel people for years).

It was also a time when U.P.S. was still running their electrics in the city - leave it to them to have gone green so early on!.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L":

Appreciate your "behind the scenes" tidbits, as always....they truly allow one to appreciate a vintage view like this even more!

Thanks!

I DID know that the WHITE was NOT a B&O unit (I see I was thinking like yourself, that the bus was probably a R&T that entered Manhattan via the Holland Tunnel from Jersey City)

Wasn't that the old "99S"? ("99"?)

Yes, I also did notice the old WALKER electric (as this is a BUS discussion, I didn't think mention it!)........again, this MORE than reminds us of the longevity once enjoyed by many types of vehicles (not only buses), once upon a time.

I truly find it exciting that, quite often, even the most "humdrum" of vintage street scenes can often net some rare finds!
