Scroll down this page (right side); there are a number of rare old views of tri-axle single and double-deck buses from the 1920's/early 30's.
Some really unusual coaches on this page......the "Private Car" is BEYOND wild!

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,
Believe it or not, the Six Wheel Company out of Philadelphia was doing a land office business in the late twenties as can be seen below in the guise of a Surface Transportation double decker originally purchased to take over Fifth Avenue Coach Company's temporary Grand Concourse service in The Bronx.
Whether it was the mechanics of the tandem rear wheel setup that operators were not happy with or the attraction to the more traditional single rear axle of Yellow's Model Z's that eventually lead to the demise of Six Wheel is not known to me but they disappeared rather quickly.
