I'm not sure is this is a repeat photo, but here's a good color shot of 324, one of 35 TDH-4509 buses delivered in 1950. Location is along Rockaway Blvd at Liberty Avenue - circa '60's.

Perhaps Mr. L. can fill us in with more details.

frankie,

Yes, I've shown it a number of times over the years but once more can't hurt and it is one of my favorites although I didn't like the 'second' generation apple green and cream livery as much as the original angel wings and bib design.

The buses, all thirty-five and numbered 311 to 345, were delivered to the Cornell Park garage in December of 1950.

The delivery aspect was very interesting because at the time GM's production was so busy and backed up that there was a shortage of their delivery chauffeurs.

So, with agreement between Local 1179 and the UAW, Green Line sent fifteen drivers and one mechanic to Pontiac to pick up almost half the order (P.S., they didn't need the mechanic - the buses ran great right off the assembly line!).

Pictured below and courtesy of Moderator GBL Rebel, we see the order on public view in front of the Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens - undoubtedly at the behest of the Borough President who was probably up for re-election at the time!

Of note is the decorated tree on the north end of the building.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'
