Seen below in sloppy northeast weather sometime in the late forties and shuffling along the yet to be removed abandoned tracks of the United Traction Company is one of six 1946 GM Model TD-3609's (hydraulic) operating for the Albany Transit Company of Albany, New York.

Our subject with an illegible fleet number is seen on the #8 route on its way to Arbor Hill - a large and very historic section in the northern part of the city.

Of note on the bus is the mechanical ventilation system which may or may not have been a requirement outside of the City of New York.

Albany Transit Company and its affiliate Albany/Nassau Bus Lines fell into the hands of the newly created Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) in the early seventies.

The Capital District Transportation Authority is a public benefit organization that provides transportation in the Capital District of New York State including Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer and Saratoga counties. CDTA runs buses and also operates the Albany-Rensselaer and Saratoga Springs Amtrak stations.

That's a great 1947 Cadillac 'Fast Back' coupe in the background but they forgot to order the optional fog lights!

A correction to the Albany story above;

The bus is a 1946 GM Model TD 3206 (hydraulic) and was operating for the United Traction Company of Albany and carried fleet # 627.

Sorry for the error.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'
