Seen not too long ago in a scrap yard outside of Baltimore, Maryland is a Yellow Coach Type '32' Model 728 or its variation Model 731 originally delivered to The Connecticut Company of New Haven, Connecticut sometime between 1935 and 1939.
While the 728's with air clutches and the 731's with standard mechanical transmissions are identical and impossible to differentiate outwardly, the company did purchase nearly 100 of each in a traction replacement program as is noted in the advertisement also shown below.
The type '32' was the first of the Yellow heavy duty transits to feature a transversely mounted rear engine coupled to an angle drive - a configuration that has withstood the test time and is still in use in the industry today.
I would hope that this fine old coach still exists and that New York's MTA Transit Museum would buy it to create a replica of a New York City Omnibus of the same ilk.
