A friend told me a while ago that there was an old New Flyer from Suffolk, sitting in some lot on Suffolk Ave in Brentwood. He claims that after it was used by Suffolk, it was brought and used by Huntington Area Rapid Transit. Anyone know if what he says is true, did Huntington Area Rapid Transit have an Ex Suffolk Transit New Flyer at some point?

This post is a little bit off.......The lot your friend is referring to is on the south
side of Suffolk Avenue about 200 feet west of Rte 111. I passed there afound HART # 701 there. It was not a Flyer, but a small bus used in handicapped service and possibly, on an emergency basis, on HART"S commuter routes.

After Tax season is over, I will ask how to post pictures in these posts and will put up what I shot.

He may have misidentified the bus, as he saw it while traveling on the bus.

Suffolk Bus Corp did run buses like those on, i believe he said, the 7A back in the 80's. So he he could have been right and HART 701, could be one of the ones that Suffolk Bus Corp had.

Looking at the photo of Coram 924, I believe that might be an ex-Chattanooga T6H4523A. The paint scheme looks just like the as-delivered scheme for Chattanooga's T6H4523A's.

According to the OMOT lists, Chattanooga Area Regional Transit Authority got 45 T6H4523A's, numbered 901-945, in June, 1973. So they would have had a 924. That number looks like the same style Chattanooga used also.

We'd have to know the serial number to be certain, though.

I would believe if that bus was a second hand, Coram Bus Service/Line Service was notoriously poor (first to cash check, first to get paid. Last to cash, no pay for you) and often, on the school bus side, rented buses from other companies.

Ok, does any know of/ or seen a picture of a New York Bus Service GMC Fishbowl on the S40. I swear a few years ago, I saw a picture somewhere on the internet of a New York Bus Service GMC Fishbowl on the S40 taken at the Babylon Railroad Station. I didn't see a bus number but I remember that it had S40 on a sign in the front destination sign. I also remember that it was still in the New York Bus Service livery and had New York Bus Service still written on it. I think it was said to have been taken back in the early 80's. I haven't been able to find the picture since.

I don't know of any but I wouldn't be surprised. ex-NYBS buses show up in unusual places. I remember seeing them with the NYBS removed from the roof and VETERAN"S TRANSPORTATION painted on one of the stripes. Also saw several used by Commercial Driver Training institute in West Babylon. One of them was lined up n/b on New South Road in Hicksville, for a driving test of one of their students. (Hope she/he passed).

Ok, I have a question. I was talking to my mother about when my Grandfather use to drive transit for the old Coram Bus Service, it turns out that he stop driving transit before Suffolk Transit was started, he had switched to the school bus side and didn't stop doing that until 1986.

Anyway she said that she remembered that he use to drive a bus that had a system of opening and closing the door like a school bus. I was wondering was there ever a transit bus made with such a system? She said that it could have been a school bus since Coram Bus Service used school buses on their routes, but I thought I'd ask just to make sure.

Nothing like that existed in NYC where i grew up and lived from 1950 until I moved to Suffolk in 1976. I know that some of the OTR's had a crank system with the handle mounted on the dashboard toward the middle of the windshield.

I have a question about Alert Coach. At one time they ran an express bus that first started at the WW Mall (later extended out to Exit 6Cool into Main St / Roosevelt Ave. I think they wanted to push it into NYC but that never occurred. They used their charter OTR's most of the time. Around 1982 they obtained (I believe) 4 small Fishbowls (probably 35 ft) from some operator in Illinois. I know this is true since I rode one during a PM run. Don't know why they were obtained, or their numbers.

Any info would be helpful! Thanx.

S-60,

I've enjoyed your historic Suffolk County rosters and would like to see the coaches as well.

By the way, the Utility Lines 400 (Flxible F2D6V401-7-UL-AC) is a 1964 model. The OMOT production list doesn't show a year but I've previously identified later serials as 1964's. This suburban model was only built in 1964 and 1965.

The first Prevosts operated by Sunrise were #'s 300 & 301. The OTR coach fleet from 1980 until 2006 was almost exclusively Prevosts. From # 300 thru # 345... (only #'s 305 & 306 were not Prevosts, they were MANN coaches, imported from Germany).

Ok, thanks Jimbo. I was wondering because I had only found records for #300-301 and they were listed as going to Sunrise Buses Inc, and I wasn't totally sure if they meant Sunrise Coach.
