The membership overwhelmingly rejected the contract, and also authorized the union to strike. No strike date set yet, meeting with management scheduled for Monday 11-15.

Which very well may be the case. It isn't the only State with budget problems. Bad time for "take a stand" courses of action.
So many States are ending projects of "...it seemed like a good idea at the time..." priorities.

While Connecticut is deep in a financial hole right now, it is not stopping the politicians from going ahead with a plan to add a full compliment of night service in Waterbury. Most likely, the buses will run nearly empty for most of the evening. It is planned to end service at 11 PM, which means that second shift workers will not be able to use the service. One can only guess if the new governor will go ahead with this plan once he takes office in January.

Also, our union contract has just expired, and we are beginning negotiations as well. Best of luck to all of us!

Bill

Bill - All -

Note many States are hardly in happy places these days. See this source, which restates a lot of other
assessments in play at the moment.
http://www.businessinsider.com/meredith-whitney-on-state-defaults-on-60-minutes-2010-12

Locally, our Esteemed Governor considering: 1) Tightening up on State Pension eligibility rules, 2) A five
pct., across the board cut in Education accounts, and 3) A bunch of other stuff. At the same time, we
have the old children's tune of "London Bridge Is Falling Down" to a contemporary scenario wherein
"...Any Bridge..." may be substituted in the lyrics...
