Error on the Sunrise roster. # 1065 is back in service, not 1075.

Thanks for catching that Jimbo. Must have been thinking about 1075 when I wrote that.

Suffolk wants to cut eight routes, they are the 1B, 5A, 7D/E, 10A, 10D/E, S35, S71, and S90. The cuts will take place in October if approved.

I know for the 10A, the alternate is the S92 BUT it's a hike between Montauk Hwy and Sunrise Hwy.

The 10D, 10E and even the S90...wow! Looks like taxis for the alternate.

Too bad this is not like the MTA where you could have other routes extended to cover some of these East End routes.

How about you Mac? I know you're up there by the 7D and 7E...even the S71. Looks like the S66 and S68 are the alternates?

For the 7E and a section of the 7D the alternative would be the S66. The S68 would be the alternative for the Montauk hwy part of the 7D, though that's twice a day.

The S66 would be the alternative for yhe Montauk Hwy portion of the S71. Though the loss of the S71 sucks for those SCCC-SELDEN students that live in Shirley.

Suffolk said that other routes could be altered to replace the cut routes.

Well at least that's something to consider. The S71 is HUGE in that part of Suffolk.

Oh do you happen to know the exact (or close to it) routing for the 9A? I looked on here but couldn't find it.

Did it run on Love Lane to get to Sound Av and then Sound Av out to Main Rd and then to Orient Point that way?

Sorry for asking on this thread but I was just curious. Thanks in advance!

The last time I rode the S71, which was a few years ago, it only carried a few people, not sure we're they went since I had gotten off in Medford, and that was mid day. Not to mention it was late.

I think the S71 is too long for its own good, and travels on heavily congested road ways which causes it to be late. Not to mention that its schedule is horrible.

No I know nothing about the 9A.

I TOTALLY agree with you on the S71. It was created back in what 2003? as (to me...my opinion) "A Gap Route" meaning if you missed an S66, S63, etc. The S71 would be there.

Also, it would be interesting if they do cut the 10A and S90...would Hampton Jitney give up some buses? Like what 2 or 3?

Sunrise Coaches too with the possibility of the 10D, 10E being cut too. Like 1 or 2.

The S71 was created around 2001 or 2002 from what I've been able to tell.

My guess would be that the buses would be kept as spares. Only way I see any buses being moved is if they use the cuts to then justify retiring the rest of the 1999 Orion V's. (Three could be retired just on the cut of the 7D/E.)

One bus to the 10 D/E and I would assume one bus for yhe S90 and 10A. So if transfers of buses were to take place it would probably be one bus from Sunrise and two buses from HJ.

A fellow member from the NYCTransitForums was looking at a March 1999 PDF and noticed an S94 route on page 23:

http://www.southamptontownny.gov/DocumentCenter/Home/View/796

"Local:
• The S-92 between East Hampton and Orient Point, via
Riverhead and Southampton Village.
• The S-94 via Montauk Highway, through Water Mill
and Bridgehampton (summer only).
• The 10A connecting Southampton College and Sag
Harbor, via Southampton Village, North Sea and
Noyack
• The 10D connecting East Quogue and Hampton Bays.
• The 8A servicing the Riverhead area.
• The 10E servicing Hampton Bays.
The 10A, 10B and 10C are operated by Hampton Jitney; the S-
92, S-94, 8A, 10D and 10E are operated by Sunrise Coach; all of
the buses are operated under contract to Suffolk County Transit
(SCT). "

The S-94 runs from Montauk Village to Montauk Point. This is a loop run, only during the summer (July & August). The route is operated by Hampton Jitney since it began. Surprisingly, this route was not cancelled during the recently announced cut backs. note: Hampton Jitney and Sunrise Coach Lines operate Suffolk County routes together under Twin Forks Transit.

Jimbo, that's the current S94.

The 1993 System map has the S94 going from Southhampton to Montauk, Summer only.

Back then Montauk to Montauk Point was the 10C, Summer only.

I doubt that a S-94 ran from Southampton to Montauk at any time BECAUSE the franchise for all buses on Route 27 - Montauk Highway between Southampton & East Hampton belonged to Sunrise Coach Lines.
