Pictured below is fleet number 411 - a 1933 Twin Coach Model 30A (serial # 25376) and one of twenty-two (401 to 422) operating for the Key System Transit Company of Oakland, California.
Twin's often imitated 'street car' design was first introduced in 1927 to immediate rave notices and became the largest selling transit bus line in the country with thousands produced until the mid thirties.
Unique curved side windshields gave drivers almost unobstructed panoramic views of the road ahead of them.
The 30 passenger #411 is signed for route # 74 County Line - Claremont and ran local service on San Pablo Avenue in the Oakland suburb of Richmond.
Key Transit Company had its beginnings in 1921 as a subsidiary of a Bay Area Railroad/Traction conglomerate and ran until its takeover by the Alameda and Contra Costa Transit District (known as AC Transit) in 1960.
Notice how spiffy their drivers were dressed although the leather boots must have been a real pain in the summer months.
Also shown below on its way to the Pacific Bus Museum for restoration is # 400 - a 26 passenger Twin Model 30 that was originally a demonstrator for Key.
