'Transit Service Cuts Also Reach Museum'
By KATE TAYLOR; Compiled by RACHEL LEE HARRIS
Published: July 11, 2010 The New York Times
The New York Transit Museum laid off two full-time and two part-time employees last week as part of required payroll reductions across the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and its agencies, which are facing a financial crisis, said Aaron Donovan, an authority spokesman.
The museum is financed by donations and revenue from admissions and sales in its stores, but its staff members are officially employed by the authority.
At the museum the full-time staff has been reduced to 18 from 21 through the layoffs and one vacancy going unfilled. Mr. Donovan said that operations and hours would not be affected. The museum had 566,169 visitors last year at its location in Brooklyn and at Grand Central Central Station in Manhattan.
