This is what happens when the timecruncher/scheduler is also the person who programs destination signs. If he or she has a sense of humor, we can have a wee bit of fun with destination signs...
I call this 4-view display "how to pronounce the city's name:"
This is how a southerner might pronounce it --
This is how a furriner (one-a you yankees from up north) might say it --
This is the redneck pronounciation (usually heard at the state fair) --
The city was founded by Meriwether Lewis and George Rogers Clark of Lewis & Clark fame. It is named for French guy and all-around tyrant King Louis XVI. He knew a good bottle of Ripple when he drank it, and would behead you if you didn't like it.
They got restless while here and went on the discover some residential land out west somewhere --
And finally, how it is spelled.
Our Chamber of Commerce still sells T-shirts with this series of phonetic spellings on it, and I figured "what the heck - let's see what it would look like on the bus!"
I haven't been asked to remove it yet.
