You may need to get the binoculars out....right side of picture, 1/3 down from the top. A GBL Old Look in Arverne.
The view from Larkin Avenue and Beach 66th street (1951)
(Hopefully, the image link works). |

FT,
Great find even if it is microscopic! (looks like a 4509).
Try this one on for size which I think was taken in Howard Beach area (I think!).
I'll take any GBL photo regardless of how tiny it is!

And, if you think you needed binoculars for the above shots, take a gander below;
Pictured is a very early sixties image of what was then New York International Airport (now JFK) with International Arrivals to the right of the frame and TWA's newly opened bird shaped terminal in the background showing off part of their fleet of Boeing 707 jets.
The tiny speck at layover (lower center) is a Green Bus Lines GM TDH 5301 undoubtedly of the 400 series and definitely working the Q10 Lefferts Boulevard Airport branch - I should know - I sat at that stop many times myself watching the pretty stewardesses go by to pass the time!
Because of an exclusive agreement between Carey Transportation and the Port of New York Authority, Green Line was not permitted access to the terminal circle roadway which meant that passengers had quite a walk to reach our buses.

The tiny spec is across the street from TWA. The bigger spec is in the center at the bus stop. |

Oh, I see it now! - I completely missed it!
It could have been me behind that wheel except for that fact that I never had the opportunity to drive a New Look.
I guess they just didn't trust me!
What's surprising is that there's no Carey 4104's or 4106's in the photo - they were usually all over the place.
Nice spotting!

According to Wikipedia, TWA flew Convair 880's as well as Boeing 707's. They both had 4 engines under each wing, but the C-880 was a bit smaller and a bit faster. |

Actually, I flew both myself back when.
My first trip to California to visit close family friends was in November of 1959 at Thanksgiving time.
I flew out on a night flight on a TWA Lockheed Constellation stopping at Pittsburgh, Chicago and Las Vegas and arriving in L.A. sixteen hours later.
That evening, I received a call from home that my father had had a stroke and I immediately made arrangements to return on a Boeing 707 for an extra $50 (actually, I made the round trip to L.A. and back in about 23 hours).
I did fly the Convair 880 to Phoenix and back once which wasn't bad but their reputation didn't help them and they died out (along with a few passengers) very quickly.
Pictured is an 880 courtesy of Wikipedia.
