PLEASE POST YOUR IDEAS ON WHAT U THINK WOULD BE ****REALISTIC FOR LIB TO CHANGE NEXT*****, IN THE PAST I HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT STREAMLINING NYCT/MTA BUS/LIB ROUTES INTO 1 SYSTEM BUT THAT IS NOT ON THE TABLE RIGHT HERE TODAY SO I AM LOOKING FOR IDEAS ON WHAT LIB COULD OR SHOULD TRY NEXT INDEPENDENT OF NYCT AND MTA BUS STREAMLINING. PLEASE POST YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND LET ME KNOW WHAT U THINK OF MINE

First up -- N80/N81 this is already a pair of marginal, underperforming routes but never the less they DO link two major shopping centers that are open 7 DAYS a week and im sure there are people who rely on the service.

Does anyone else feel they should run on sunday too???

How about reducing the saturday service intervals from hourly on each branch to bi-hourly on each branch and implementing the identical schedule on Sunday - this would be cost neutral.

Instead of the N80 leaving Broadway mall at :15 after each hour and N81 at :45 after each hour - the new schedule would be like 7:15 N80, 8:15 N81, 9:15 N80 and so on - this would still leave hourly intervals between the common portion of route -

N45 - reschedule and reduce N45 service to bi-hourly 7 DAYS A WEEK - since the N43 serves the busy part of uniondale ave there is not much need for the N45 anymore but nevertheless im sure that some people along the uncommon route would want to go to the mall ANYDAY. A schedule from the mall would be like 7:15, 9:15, 11:15, 1:15, 3:15, 5:15, 7:15, 9:15 MON - SAT [/b] and 7:15 - 7:15 on Sun with the same intervals.
The current schedule calls for 13 s/b weekday trips and 7 on sat for a total of 72 s/b trips per week. My proposal calls for 8 weekday trips and 7 weekend trips for a weekly reduced total of 55 southbound trips --MAYBE WE COULD ADD ANOTHER S/B TRIP AT 8:15 AM AND 4:15 PM TO PROVIDE HOURLY PEAK PERIOD INTERVALS - this would increase the trip totals to 65 but would still be less than the current 72 and there would be new service for customers travleing to/from roosevelt field on sunday and later return service on all days.

N51 -Same concept - I believe that any route serving a 7 day a week shopping mall should run on SUNDAY.

The current schedule calls for 12 complete and 2 reduced south bound trips on weekdays and 6 on sat for a weekly total of 76 s/b trips.

The N51 is a very underutilized line and only carries people who have no other alternative, but never the less they deserve an adequate span of service 7 DAYS a weeks for travel to from roosevelt field.

The new s/b schedule from roosevelt field should look something like this week days
6:45, 7:45, 8:45, 10:45, 12:45, 2:45, 4:45, 5:45, 7:45, 9:45 thats 60 trips
7:45, 9:45, 11:45, 1:45, 3:45, 5:45, 7:45, 9:45 thats 8 trips saturday
9:45, 11:45, 1:45, 3:45, 5:45, 7:45 thats 6 trips sunday
A weekly total of 74 s/b trips - a reduction of 2 trips and the implementation of new sunday service to/ from roosevelt field and later return service for shoppers, workers on all days.

****In the event that the rescheduling impacts a few commuters to/from merrick lirr station, the do-nothing, waste of time, tart-kart van N53 line could easliy be adjusted to serve these customers by rescheduling and/or rerouting the N53 to run along merrick ave, which serving the merrick commuters is the whole purpose of that stupid route anyway****

For those of you who dont fully understand all of the systemwide schedule changes that have taken place during the past two years and will continue to take place here it is. THE NEW MTA LI BUS is linking all of the lines together to reduce layover waste, improve service patterns, and ultimately reduce operating costs. The old LIB did NOT do this - the runs were always set up for that specific line and were set to the drivers convenience which is why many LIB operators are crying now. For example - if a driver picked a run on the N78/79, he would spend all or most of the day driving between mineola and walt whitman mall or plainview complex - NOW - the N78/79 is totally interlined with the N23 in mineola. YOU CAN NOT pick one line without the other. A driver may start in mineola doing a trip to manorhaven and back and then become a N79 to walt whitman mall which looking at the 40 min or so layover is where he/she has meal break. Then he/she will go back to mineola and then do another trip to manorhaven and back. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS LIKE THIS NOW - the N33 in far rockaway and long beach is linked with the N31/32 and 15. The N36 in freeport is with the N4 or the N62. The N25 on weekends is with the N58 in great neck. There are more linkings that im not knowledgable on- the N73 on saturday is linked with something but i dont know what (22 prob) so -

Rescehduling the N45 and N51 the way i have proposed is a very real possibilty if i forward the ideas to the right individuals since it will improve service and MOST IMPORTANTLY operating costs will be reduced because there are less trips but evenly spaced expaned service hours. The departure times from roosevelt field may not be at the times i have suggested because the trips would be connected with another line like the N24 on weekends or the N43 and may end up being RVC routes if they are linked with the N15 or N16 since the N15 and N16 are both RVC routes now (i guess the N58 on weekends is also since the N58 is linked with N25 in great neck on w/e and RVC is now open 24/7)

Since the rescheduling as proposed has resulted in the elimination of minimum of 9 trips per week, we can place those trips somewhere else under the same budget so where do you feel they should go to???

How about an 8:29 and 9:29 N23 from mineola on saturday???
and 9:25 and 10:25 from manorhaven??
Two more rounds on the N23 should be a little less time than 9 one way trips on N45 or N51 so it would fit the budget

Or 8:45 N27 to glen cove on sunday??? With a new 8:55 and 9:55 from glen cove???

Or how about a 10:40 N22 from hicksville saturday night??

That does make sense.

N1/N2/N8 lets start with the do-nothing N2.

The current schedule calls for 9 rounds at hourly intervals on sat - lets reduce this to bi-hourly - 9:00, 11:00, 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, 7:00, 9:00 from mall and 9:30, 11:30, 1:30, 3:30, 5:30, 7:30, 9:30 from floral pk - reduction of 2 rounds on sat - this will increase the span of service for late nite shoppers/workers.

N8 to be rescheduled and linked with N2 at green acres - current schedule calls for 16 rounds on sat - reduced to bi hourly -constrict running time slightly - departing green acres opposite as N2 because it will be the same bus/run 10:00, 12:00, 2:00, 4:00, 6:00, 8:00, 10:00 from green acres
And 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 2:30, 4:30, 6:30, 8:30 from franklin square -reducing service to only 7 round trips on sat down from 16 (i have ridden that line and we only carried like 5 people on sat). First bus on sat morning will dead head from rvc to franklin/hempstead for N8 and last will run off there sat nite.

N1 to operate to and from Hewlett broadway later 7 days a week - hewlett broadway and the N31/N32 is the linkage for residents from far rock, the entire rockaway peninsula and the five towns who work and shop at green acres -
weekday - 7:30,8:30, 9:30,10:30 from green acres will originate at grant park at 7:45, 8:45, 9:45, 10:45 and will depart green acres at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 - 9:00 from hemp tpke will now leave at 8:30 and 10:00 will leave at 9:25 both will operate thru to grant park to provide a connection to N31/N32 to far rock for shoppers/workers leaving mall. Two more s/b trips will be added leaving hemp tpke at 10:25 and 11:25 pm and operate thru to grant park - this will provide later service for elmont rd/ central ave customers connecting from N6 and later service for mall workers/shoppers connecting to N32 to far rock. The 7:35 pm from jamaica will operate thru to grant park at 8:16 from mall. New trips will depart the mall at 8:48, 9:43, 10:43, 11:43 to grant park. (WALMARTS IN NASSAU COUNTY ARE ALL OPEN UNTIL 12 MIDNIGHT NOW THUS JUSTIFYING THE NEED FOR LATER SERVICE TO/FROM GREEN ACRES) Undoubtedly these late nite N1 trips will carry more than the daytime N2/N8 trips that have been eliminated. The 9:43, 10:43, 11:43 from the mall are due at grant pk at about :58 past each hour respectively and have been scheduled to depart hemp tpke at :25 after. The 10:25 and 11:25 N32 from hemp will now depart at 10:35 and 11:35 to improve connections at grant pk. A similar evening service pattern will be implemented on sat nite. No sunday service will be implemented on N2 or N8 because resources saved from the rescheduling on saturdays of N2/N8 have been directed to late nite N1 service. Sunday N1 will be rescheduled entirely.

N73/74 to be extended to broadway mall - looks like there is ample time to extend the routes 3 or 4 minutes to the rear mall stop with N80/81

The N73/74 using the rear mall stop with N80/81 would not conflict with them because they leave at :15 and :45 and the N73/74 would be adjusted to leave like :28 and :58 so the times at hicks station would be set back like four min and the return from wantagh slightly set back also. I'm not sure if the N73 would be needed on sunday because it does not serve the same busy commercial corridor as the N80/81 which serve TWO malls

How about the N19 on saturday??? Is there a need for half hourly service or would hourly service be sufficient? The N23, 25, 27 only run hourly on sat and you cant convince me that the N19 is busier than any of them!!

Lets reduce saturday intervals to hourly and put a few more trips on N25 on saturday - 5:06 am from lynbrook and 7:06 and 8:06 at night

Maybe 8:06am and 6:06 and 7:06pm on sunday.

How about the N20/21 on saturday???? Is there a need for 15 min intervals between the clock tower and glenwood st/city line on saturday????? Lets reduce this to 20 min headways - the new service pattern would be something like 1:00 N20 to hicks 1:20 N21 to glen cv 1:40 N20 to ros clck 2:00 N20 to hicks 2:20 N21 to gl cv and so on.

Lets put those buses from northern on merrick rd west instead on N4 saturday evening - the current N4 saturday goes to hourly after 7:35 then its 8:30 9:30 10:30 11:30 12:30 - the N20/21 runs half hourly till 10 on saturday night but the N4 is hourly????? That makes no sense - the buses pulled from N20/21 will go to N4 - adjust the 7:35 from free station to leave at 7:25, 8:30 to 8:25 and so on till 12:30 adjusted to 12:25 to correspond with weekday times - new trips to be added at 7:55, 8:55, 9:55, 10:55, 1:25 - 7:05 from freeport will move up to 7:00 instead.

Speaking of the N4 - I guess we will see a completely new and redesigned schedule for the N4 coming in the next few picks - all of the other queens routes have been thoroughly redesigned since the takeover - the N6 was chopped up and redesigned a year ago starting on 4/26/09 with regular 10 min intervals 6 days and 15 on sun and new 30 min hawk headways.
The N22/22a was done in september with the streamling of all evening N22A trips to and from Hicksville as N22B trips and the improvement of weekend service to regular 30min intervals throughout the day. The N20/21 was done in january with many more trips operating to and from hicksville station at all times 7 days including new limited service and the introduction of regular 15 min intervals on 6 days. The N24 was just done this pick with new regular intervals at all times and regular midday alternating service to/from reckson bldg or 60 charl lindbergh (welfare office) - saturday service was improved from 35 min or so intervals to regular 30 min leaving each end at :15 and :45 and sunday has been evened out to leave at the same time of :15 after each hour to correspond to the same departure times on other days. The N33 now has been done this pick to even the headways to a regular 30 min pattern throught much of the day 7 days a week with weekday trips leaving at :20 and :50 from both ends and weekend trips leaving at :00 and :30 - so i guess the N4 will be redesigned and evened out sometime soon because the trip times are very uneven during the week.

Hey Scatman:

I've got a couple of ideas for you. First use Capital Letters at the beginning of sentences.

How about only putting one or two ideas a day on the board and see if
anyone responds.

You've put up so many comments that need to be digested it seems that your brain is racing in 8th gear without giving anyone time to see the whole picture.

Obviously by the lack of response, nobody cares and can picture what you are saying system wide.

How about the N36???

Does that carry much on saturday???

How about reducing this to bi-hourly on Sat also and implementing an identical bi-hourly schedule on Sunday just like the N80/81 idea
