The newsday.com website has several photos of Suffolk Transit 5014 in the median after crashing into a car near Riverside. One person in the car lost his life, and several bus passengers were brought to a hospital. The S66 apparently was on route from Patchogue to Riverhead. It had just left the community college. In my opinion, Newsday too often gives locations and other details incorrectly, then updates the story or drops it. And it charges for web access, unless you are a Cablevision or Newsday customer.

The article says the passenger car ran a stop sign. It says the crash happened at the intersection of County Roads 51 and 63.

The details are essentially correct. A news crew from FIOS 1 was mot permitted to get to the site, probably due to the fatality. The driver of the car that ran the stop sign and caused the collision was identified as 21 year old, Michael Brown of Greenport

Now wcbs880.com has a front view of the damage done to 5014. The front right windshield is broken, not the driver's. The bike rack is damaged.

yeah, 5014 won't be back for a while.

i saw the damage on News 12, they had a side shot that made it appear that the door may have been damaged as well.

and wasn't sure if the bike rack was damage till now.

i believe that the driver of 5014 that day was a sub, as the guy who normally drives that bus was driving 9938, 5014's replacement on Thursday, at the same run that 5014 never got to finish.
