Nassau County is obligated to take responsibility for its bus system and subsidize it so that its economy may grow and low income workers may survive in a world where the upkeep of an automobile is extremely expensive. Approximately 3% of Nasau County's population is without a car, and there is more demand than ever for a fucntional bus system.
If Nassau were to buy new sixty foot buses for the N6 and take good care of its bus system otherwise, LI Bus would become a very attractive transportation option. Currently with only 33% of the income coming from the farebox Nassau must kick in simliar figures that the city provides for its transportation system, instead of a hands out attitude looking for funding from the state and even New York City. If MTA Bus were to take over LI Bus operations, the funding for the buses would need to come from somewhere, people fail to realize that MTA or not the system is only as good as the money put behind it and it is unfair to ask the state to act as a crutch for Nassau County's bus system.

60 footers can't happen on the N6. It's been said over and over again, they can't fit at either terminal. Put them on a route like the N20. Unfortunately, now you can't even put them on Mineola routes because it looks like they wont even fit at the new terminal

sounds like Nassau County doesn't think very well. 60 footers would be good, or even a light rail system.

It occurs to me by what I read, and what I remember of my years living in Nassau County (and still owning property there), that the Board of Supervisors sitting in Mineola couldn't care less about viable bus service to its citizenry.

This is evidenced by generally sporatic service and unusually long headways between buses on any given route.

Regardless of who may be to blame for this debacle, it is now time to set new mandates and to operate Nassau's system in a responsible manner with emphasis on rider satrisfaction.

I would have to conclude that in order to achieve this goal the state will have to intervene whether by the hand of the MTA or by a completely reorganized seperate authority.

Until such action is taken, I am afraid that complaints will continue to abound.

I'm not in favor of a state takeover of bus service in Nassau or any other county - our taxes are too damned high right now as it is.

MTA Bus or not Nassau needs to increase it's subsidy. The county government is in lala land when it comes to transportation. Look at the result, some of the worst traffic jams in suburban New York.
Then again you could be in Suffolk, where they believe Sundays is a day everyone without a car needs to stay home! Crying or Very sad

Yeah who goofed on that one! Long Island can't get anything right.
We need to look at places like Westchester, which have much better terminals, bus service, and intermodel centers.
Mineola and HTC need to be modified to accept Artics. The money can come from the bufoons who designed it so artics cant fit.
