This piece is dedicated to our good buddy Dieseljim.
Modern bus company service cars including heavy duty towing equipment, 'pit stop' repair shops and even snow removal rigs are 'purpose built' usually by truck manufacturers.
However, in days of yore, this was not the case and the fabrication of such equipment was left to the imaginations of clever transit company mechanics.
Being that buses of the past were built tougher and lasted so much longer than those produced today, it was easy to take even the highest mileage retiree and convert it for road service duty knowing that it could last almost indefinitely.
Pictured below are just some of those interesting transformations seen plying New York's thoroughfares in times past.

I'm sure Jim would have approved of these vehicles as being far better than anything available to the current fleets! Hey, I like them too! |
