AFC-Brills were a rare sight in New York City - only 15 to be exact! All ran for Queens-Nassau Transit. Pictured here is an even rarer shot of the rear of one - this one being a 1947 model AFC-Brill C-44 #103 running somewhere along Queens Blvd.

frankie,
Another oldie but goldie!
Queens/Nassau Transit Lines # 103 was, during the time the shot was taken, being delivered new (during the blizzard of 1947) to the company from ACF's Philadelphia factory (notice the temporary 'transporters' plate strapped to the rear bumper).
Of the twenty original 1947 ACF Brill C-44's (numbered 101 to 120) that the company received only numbers 101 through 115 carried the Queens/Nassau flag with 116 to 120 being sent to affiliate Portland Coach Company of Portland, Maine.
Before 101 to 115 were sold in 1960, most had had their original Hall Scott gasoline engines replaced with Fageol-Leyland Diesels.
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |
