Here is the latest on the Flight 3407 investigation. The CEO of the airline operating the flight for Continental admitted that the Captain commanding that flight was, based on failed checkrides, so incompetent that he had no business flying the aircraft that went down in Clarence,NY. Not only that, but his co-pilot was flying with a head cold and that after she deadheaded crosscountry on a redeye on top of her cold. That such a thing is allowed to go on with such lethal results is what I call LEGALIZED MURDER or at the very least, MANSLAUGHTER, especially when the regional carriers play fast and loose with the safety rules like they have for so long and some of the majors, who should know better, have, too. Not only that, but the practice of codesharing among carriers is a deceptive one that ought to be stopped. If I were to board a Continental flght, the aircraft I board had better be A CONTINENTAL jet, and not one of these turboprops flown by such fly by night operators that the majors have contracted with to operate their less profitable routes. Much of this mess goes back to deregulation, and some of it goes back to the Reagan Administration which encouraged such abominable corporate behaviour, of which the recent economic meltdown is also a product. As far as I am concerned, if these regional airlines do not clean up their act then they deserve to be put out of business by whatever means is necessary, for the safety of the travelling public AND the people on the ground.

So, the support keeps coming in for explanation of this disaster... I'll submit with our collected, reasoned and objective banter right here
(and various other boards), we had the Accident Report written on this one!

I have yet to be satiisfied why the Captain didn't opt for the only way out: Drop the nose just a bit below level, full power up, and takes
yer chances... Yeah, it would have made for a spooky ride. Just brushing the tree tops, though, counts as good as a miss...

Deregulation? Don't start. IMHO, a monstrous creature cooked up by "...all the best and brightest of minds from all the best schools..."
sort of thing. Dissent was not appreciated or at all welcome, and therefore ignored, at all Congressional hearings prior enactment of
now governing laws. A workng system, and wrecked for what?

That a working system was wrecked explains why we have the rampant lawlessness in the corporate world today and the airlines are just the tip of a very slimy iceberg.

ALL -

This more a respectful recall of our old friend, DIESEL JIM...

And, so, to refresh the topic: http://www.buffalonews.com/topics/flight-3407/article612432.ece

Or, and trying to be restrained and avoid presumptioness... Several of us had this one figured - at least tentatively
- not too long past the disaster. Jim had a lively interest in doomed Flight 3407. He didn't live long enough to see
subsequent conclusions...

Hope you are tuned in, Jim, wherever you may be...
