They are 12 Dartmouth students on a great American road trip with a purpose. They are traveling the country on their Big Green 1989 MCI coach bus converted to run on waste vegetable oil talking about sustainability.
Their mission is to help create a future that sustains people, the environment, and the economy. They promote simple lifestyle changes that conserve money, energy, and resources through improving efficiency in every day activities.
Over the past five summers, Dartmouth College students have traveled nearly 60,000 miles burning about 6,500 gallons of vegetable oil in place of Diesel fuel .
The bus, formerly owned by Greyhound, is equipped with solar panels, an interior constructed of sustainable materials and other green technologies.
Sponsors include Waste Management, L.L. Bean, Boloco and The Arava Institute.
Big Green will be visiting various locations on L.A.'s west side this weekend.
