Thanks for posting.
As the scheduler-in-residence on this forum, I find this of great interest. Must be nice to have pretty much base service all day, every day on most routes. It makes for very few true split runs like the kind I must post here where we have twice as many buses in the peaks as in the base periods. The result? Lots of 12 to 13-hour spread split runs.
There are contractual limitations, of course, the result of which is a bunch of open trippers that must be filled by extra board, off day or regular operators, as well as the handful of part-timers we have.
What lots of transit people don't realize is that scheduling involves two [mostly] separate tasks: One is building schedules for the public, the other is divvying up the work into tours or "runs" for the bus/rail operators. Scheduling is easy if you know what you're doing. Runcutting is a challenge, although thanks to some very sophisticated software, it isn't as difficult as it used to be.
The idea of posting the pick on our union local's website is intriguing, though. Hmmm.

Operator: You f**ked up my run!!
Scheduler: No, I didn't. It is MY run, and I let you run it for the last three months! It has now been improved... |

It certainly makes for some interesting reading as to how runs are cut in NYC. Thanks for posting the links... |
