Thanks, Mr.L for that great photo and story. When I was attending JHS 218, which became the CUNY Law School on Main Street, I used to enjoy seeing the Carey Flxible Clippers and 4104's pass by on the Idlewild to LaGuardia run. The Van Wyck nothern extension was not yet built, and that was the only decent route for commercial vehicles, as I believe they weren't able to use the Grand Central Parkway at the time.
The very first 4106 I had ever seen was a Carey on that run. It was rare, as they usually only used their older buses on it, and the new ones were on the Manhattan runs. The 8v-71 sure sounded different from the 6-71 of the '04's. |
