Here's a couple of interesting applications for ex NYC Flxibles.

The first has been converted for use by the New York City Police Department but, because I have no original fleet number for it, I am unable to identify it's Transit Authority lineage (any info that would fill in the blanks on this one would be appreciated).

The second has been set up for training and retains transit fleet number 7809 which makes it a 1975 model 53102-6-1 and one of 238 (7700 to 7937) delivered to the Manhattan & Bronx Surface Transportation Operating Authority (MABSTOA) in that year.

You may notice that this series of buses was ordered without standee or transom glasses in preparation for illuminated 'bat wing' signs which were never installed.

Also interesting to note that this 'training bus' has no right side rear view mirror!

WCA: A slight update to your wonderful post. I believe that there was an order of Flx's for NYCTA that also had no standee windows for the purpose of Bat-Wings. I have seen pictures of one NYCTA Flx, whose number is 7595 (I think) that has the Elephannt Ears attached.

You are both correct;

# 7753 (MABSTOA) was the only one that had 'bat wings' added.

New York City Transit Authority did buy 160 (7500 to 7659) of the same transomless model at the same time in 1975.

I didn't mention them because they were really a seperate order for another entity.
