Thanks to several members here, I'm slowly rebuilding the vintage bus galleries. For the TA/MaBSTOA buses, do you prefer the photos organized by borough like it was at BusTalk.net, or would more people like the photos organized by type (Old Look, New Look, Mack, RTS, etc.)? Or maybe you have another idea?

My idea is sort them by TA/company.

Who is the primary audience we are organizing these photos for? I believe that the majority of bus enthusiasts are interested in the vehicles first and then routes and locations.

The system I use to organize my own bus photo and image collections is to sort first by TA, then by manufacturer, then by bus number. This method probably reflects my own interests - I find it interesting, for example, to go to a gallery of NYCT Flxible buses and see all the different areas they operated in rather than having to go to each borough's gallery and look for pics of Flxibles.

I agree completely. I didn't care for the borough format, either, but I wanted everyone to weigh in before I deviated from the old format.

Do mean separate folders for NYCTA and MaBSTOA? I'm leaning toward combining them, simply because buses did move around later on.

If you're talking about other TAs (Privates, other cities), no, I'm not planning on combining them with NYCTA/MaBSTOA based on bus model.

I agree with combining NYCT and MaBSTOA.

As far as breaking out the different makes into separate folders, I would recommend doing this only for operators with a large number of images.

Here's how I would do it:

- NYCT/MaBSTOA GMC Old Look and New Look
- NYCT/MaBSTOA Flxible New Look and 870
- NYCT/MaBSTOA GMC/TMC/Nova RTS
- NYCT/MaBSTOA Orion/New Flyer/MCI
- MTA Bus GMC/TMC/Nova RTS
- MTA Bus TMC Classic
- MTA Bus Orion/MCI
- Command Bus/Pioneer Bus
- Green Bus Lines
- Jamaica Buses
- Liberty Lines Express/Riverdale Transit/Pelham Parkway Bus Service
- New York Bus Service
- Queens Surface Corporation/Queens Transit/Steinway Transit
- Triboro Coach
- Manhattan/Bronx/Brooklyn/Staten Isl. private operators (Fifth Ave. Coach, Surface Transportation, Ave. B & East B'way, etc.)
- MTA Long Island Bus/Suffolk Transit
- Other Long Island buses (including private operators before public takeover)
- Westchester County Bee-Line
- Other Westchester buses (including private operators before public takeover)

And on from there.

Absolutely.

If we have a lot of images, I'll probably make these four separate galleries.

- MTA Bus TMC Classic
- MTA Bus Orion/MCI

Since these are the "Vintage" galleries, I'm not anticipating any MTA Bus, Orions, or newer RTSes. I might combine RTSes and 870s into a single "ADB" gallery.

- Triboro Coach

Agree 100%

There were a lot of Ave B & East B'way, so if we recover them all, I'd say they warrant their own gallery. FACCo and STS can be lumped together.

Might combine these into two galleries instead of four, depending on number of pictures.

Ripta42 et al,

I would like to present my whole collection of Green Line bus photos which would bring the equipment part of the history of the company up from 1933 through 1954.

That can be followed by the Fishbowl era and so on presented by others.

I would include a short caption with each shot giving about the same information as was found with the pictures in the BTN galleries.

Let me know what you would like, but please bear in mind that my picture transmission ability at this time is limited to e-mail (principally because I don't understand enough about computers to do it any other way!).

Looking forward to great galleries here at BT3!

I am sort of partial to the way it was done on the old BT. I liked clicking on, to say, Triboro, Green, or Steinway, etc. Can't get enough of those old photos. Laughing

I think that the vintage galleres should only have the Old Look Buses like the Macks Yellow Coach and GM's. New Look GMC's Flxible's and TMC Classic Buses. Listed by the companty that had them. And the borough they worked in. {I whould list them like this 1957 GM TDH-5106 Bus_7144 Buses run in Brooklyn Queens and Manattan 126th St. Depot. By the NYCTA.} Can you do a Museum Gallery too. New York City Transit and MTA Bus. I have pictures of all the Museum Buses. Not all of them are my photos. But I will post them if is OK. "Pipe"

My vote is by company, then by model.
