I've uploaded 15 photos of RIPTA GMC New Look buses taken in the early 1980's to the galleries - click on any of the photos to go to the gallery page to see larger versions of the images:

Enjoy!

Cool! The Main & Roosevelt transfer point is always a must-visit for me when I'm busfanning RIPTA.

The '72 WAL MART' sign is indicative of the changes that have affected the Pawtucket local routes since the 1980's. At the time, the 71 and 76 were through routed with the 98 and 99 and the 78 was its own bus (a lift-equipped RTS). The 72, 73 and 75 were through-routed with the 77, 79 and 80 and usually operated New Look buses on routings that were barely changed from the trackless trolley era. It's interesting to see how some of these routes have been significantly extended since then and additional through-routings to Providence created.

The 98/99 (now both numbered 99 Beating your head against a wall) are still interlined with the 71-Broad and 76-Central (and with the 11-Broad at the Providence end; if you ask the driver if he goes to Broad Street, make sure you have the right city!)

There only Pawtucket route that's interlined with another Pawtucket route these days is the 73/80. The 72-Weeden doesn't interline any more, and the "Wal-Mart" headsign sign is misleading; the route extends all the way to Kennedy Plaza. The 78-Beverage Hill also serves Kennedy Plaza with no through-routing on either end. The 77-Benefit and 79-Columbus are interlined with the 42-Hope and 51-Charles, respectively, and the 75-Dexter is on its own and goes all the way to Lincoln Mall.
