Just so we understand each other, I'm not a camera bug and my playing around with this camera won't last too long - so enjoy it for the moment and be mindful of the fact that I'm still learning!

My favorite of this group is the little cutie pie Dash!

All photos taken vicinity of Fairfax Avenue and Sunset Boulevard in L.A. on my way home.

Mr. Linsky,

Nice pictures!.

I notice that at the bottom of the windshield in a couple of photos, there is a decaled letter / number combination (Ex. - "WSC-7" on bus #5057). Does anyone know their significance?

Here are eitght comments or questions to my friend West Coast Al:

1 - The pictures are great, thanks for sharing.

2 - I have always liked the style, shape and livery of the Metro Rapid Buses
even the 60 footers.

3 - Not sure about the WSC-7 in the window but that might be the yard it
goes back to, in lieu of a decal on the side like NYC buses.

4 - I see from the ARCO station that your gasoline prices are slightly higher
than ours.

5 - I love seeing the Coffee Bean store in the background. Too bad they
haven't come to NY yet. I love their no-sugar added shakes.

6 - Perhaps is you had gone south on Fairfax we'd get a picture of you
having a corned beef sandwich at Canter's.

7 - Continuing south on Fairfax, maybe we would see you on "Thr Price is
Right" game show.

8 - Going further south on Fairfax you could take pictures of the two level
trolley the operates at " The Grove" shopping center. Although built
by an amusement park ride builder, the trucks are off of a Boston
trolley.

Thanks again for sharing

Bill,

The WSC-7 stands for the West Hollywood Depot located at San Vicente Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard.

I would have to imagine the the WS part means West Side but I can't be sure.

The depot has a very interesting and long history as it was one of Pacific Electrics main yards and contained miles of track and switches at one time.

A little of that history;

In the last years of the 19th century the first large development in what would become West Hollywood, the town of Sherman, was established by Moses Sherman and his partners in the Los Angeles and Pacific Railway, an interurban line which would become part of the Pacific Electric Railway system.

Sherman was the location of the railroad's main shops, yards and carbarns.

ECA,

Sorry I coudn't get right to your comments.

Thanks for the compliment on the pictures.

My favorite LACMTA buses are the NABI C45's - they have a bit more character with their rounded roofs and sculptured lines that bring to mind buses of an earlier time - I dislike the boxes!

Fuel prices in California have always run anywhere from ten to twenty cents higher than the rest of the country mainly because of the special summer blends that are required to control smog.

I think with the cut backs and downsizing, you may not see Coffee Bean on the east coast for a while yet.

Funny that you should mention Canter's; while they really have great food we stopped going in there years ago because they were the only deli left in town where the counter clerks also handled money. All the other deli's have a seperate chashier for that purpose.

If you are refering to CBS Studios at Fairfax and Beverly, they intend to eventually move the facility to Burbank. It will be devastating to the local businesses that depend on them.

I've been to the Grove many times and only know of a ground level trolley line unless there's something I'm missing!

Glad to share anytime.

ECA,

After I wrote the above, I took a gander at the Grove website and now see what you meant by a double deck trolley.

I had never noticed that it had a top section before or, if I did, I forgot!

Excellent photos, Mr. Linsky! I think you should consider devoting more of your time to photography! Laughing I see the LA corner street signs are the same as they were when I lived there but the buses sure have changed.
