A couple more bus lines of the past are Blue Bus Lines of Batavia,NY and Valley Bus Lines of Rochester,NY. Formal name for Blue Bus was Western New York Motor Lines and that for Valley Bus was Rochester-Penfield Bus Company. When the two merged together, the merged company kept the Western New York corporate name and joined Trailways under the name of Blue Valley Trailways, which later became Empire State Trailways and finally Empire Trailways. Still another was Genesee Bus Lines based in East Aurora, NY and operating daily service between Buffalo,East Aurora, Perry, Wellsville as well as Hornell, with a branch to North Java. It was founded in 1931 and sold to Grand Island Transit in 1966. The Hornell service, which ran only on Tuesday was dropped in 1968 and the Buffalo-Wellsville service reduced to Saturday only in 1970 and dropped altogether in 1981 when Blue Bird started their Jamestown-Olean-Rochester route which lasted ten years. So deregulation wasn't always the beneficial thing it was cracked up to be. |
