While the GMC SDM5302s are not generally noted for being delivered washroom equipped, I do have first hand knowledge of one that WAS so equipped. It was Grand Island Transit No.104, which had the same 8V71 engine as the PD4106. The first time I saw this bus in the old Greyhound terminal at 672 Main Street in Buffalo, the bus DID have a washroom aboard and seated 47 passengers just like the PD403 "Buffaloes" that came along later. Grand Island Transit may have ordered this feature with the bus since it was intended to use the bus on long distance charters as well as the Buffalo-Niagara Falls commuter route. In its final years as a Grand Island Transit Corporation bus, #104 had the washroom removed and two more seats installed to restore the 49 seat capacity the bus was designed for. As an NFTA Metrobus, 104 had the 8V71 engine and Spicer 4 speed manual transmission replaced with a 6V71 engine and Allison Automatic and the last time I rode this bus was with the smaller engine and automatic transmission.Anyone know of any other Suburbans that got this treatment? |

Wade's in Schenectady had two SDM's with rest rooms. Used mostly for Ball game charters to Boston and new York.

Wagner Tours in New Jersey had at least one fishbowl suburban with a restroom.
Also, the transit authority in Sacramento had two or three SDM4502/S6H4503A buses with restrooms. They even had a TDH4519 with a restroom installed in the rear stepwell area. The Sacramento buses were converted in their own shops. I don't think GM ever offered lavatories as a factory option on any suburbans.
Back in the seventies, Greenlawn Transit Line in Columbus, OH and Deluxe Motor Stages in the Detroit area both had ex-TNJ TDM5108's with restrooms installed.
