The name of the movie was North by Northwest starring Cary Grant who plays a hapless New York advertising executive who is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, and is pursued across the country while he looks for a way to survive.

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock with many of the exterior scenes set in Manhattan, this 1959 thriller from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was nominated for three Academy Awards.

Alfred Hitchcock had one particular idiosyncrasy (among others) and that was his insistance on appearing in at least one scene in each of his movies.

You may remember the first scene in 'The Birds' in which he strolls by a pet shop walking a French Poodle.

Pictured below in his one big scene in North by Northwest he is seen ready to board a New York City Omnibus (TDH 4509) somewhere in midtown Manhattan (you really don't want to have your hands where he had his before the doors opened!).

BTW; the pictured bus is genuine NYCO. In those days there were few if any purveyors of 'movie vehicles' and bus companies were eager for both the extra dollars and the exposure that film work brought them.

This just in!

I found a You Tube that takes you right to the clip in which Mr. Hitchcock is seen attempting to board the Omnibus.

Enlarge to full screen and manually move to the 3/4 mark - watch for the escalator shot followed by two ladies fighting for a taxi, followed by a sensational shot of a Surface C-49-DT Mack crossing in the background (stop the action for a moment to really enjoy the Mack) followed by Hitchcock running for the bus only to have the doors slammed on him and pull away.

If this isn't a piece of nostalgia, nothing is!;
