Centro has put three new Gillig 40-foot low floor buses (#2800-2802) in service on the Syracuse routes. These buses have frameless windows (a first for Centro) and also have high-backed suburban seating. They are all white for now except for a few Centro logos.

The three buses saw use on various State Fair shuttle routes at first, and have also been used in regular route service. These photos were taken by my son on a busfanning trip last weekend - we found #2800 at Seneca Mall in nearby Liverpool on a State Fair run.

The latest from the board meeting minutes on the Centro website:

- Five new MCI cruisers to be delivered in late 2008. These are available through an option held by Palmetto Breeze Transit in South Carolina. These will replace five of the 1996 MCI's.

- Five additional new Gillig 40-foot two-door diesel transit buses with high-back suburban seats. These are being purchased through an available option held by CDTA in Albany. These will replace another five of the 1996 MCI's.

- Fourteen new Gillig 40-foot hybrid buses. These are apparently an option to Centro's 2007 hybrid order and will replace 14 of the 18 Nova RTS buses from 1997.

There is also discussion from one of the meetings that Centro officials planned to visit the Gillig plant to check out a newer model hybrid with turbine technology that they are considering for future fleet purchases.

The three 2008 Gilligs were recently painted in the standard Centro scheme (click on the image to access the gallery page to see a larger version):
