Thanks to the 'Abandoned Stations' website I found an interesting picture of a Q60 (Queens Boulevard) MTA Bus on layover at 60th. Street and 2nd. Avenue in Manhattan (how many times I sat in that same spot!).

Of course, the bus is not the focus of the picture which more depicts the north entrance to the trolley station used by the Queensborough Railway Company which, once part of the Steinway operation, ran shuttles back and forth over the bridge.

There are many more interesting shots of the operation that can be seen at;

Enjoy!

Looking closely, that appears to actually be a Green Lines Orion V from before the takeover.

P of A,

Now that you mention it, it does look a bit like a narrow lighter green band on the top with what would then have to be a heavy dark green band below.

If you look at it fast as I did it sure looks MTA blue.

Thanks for the input.

Fascinating location and website, Mr. Linsky. With the current interest in building trolley systems, maybe they should consider a reincarnation of the Queensborough Bridge Railway! (And when they finish with that, TARS!!) Laughing

Dave,

It's funny that you should mention that because I understand that contained within the proposal for the new Second Avenue Subway (which I don't think any of us will live long enough to see!) is a station at 60th. Street with access to a completely renovated underground terminal that will bring the Q60 beneath the surface to service subway customers going to Queens Boulevard.

I don't think they will ever spend the money to re-vitalize the bridge trolley line.

But I do think the bus loop is a great idea!
