My main mode of transportation for my whole life has been the bicycle. For the last 11 years, I've been riding 23 miles a day roundtrip to work. At 55, this is getting old when I have to deal with the prevailing headwinds but since the bus doesn't go out here, I don't have much choice unless I decided to drive which, at this late date, is out of the question. I'm pushing 200K miles on this old body. Crying or Very sad

Here's a photo of my bike and I in the office taken several years ago. The bike still looks the same but my hair is grayer and there's less of it. Laughing

I hit up trails and do leisure riding as much as I can but never have ridden to work. I plan to do that for the first time this summer. It is only 17 miles round trip. The cool part is if I ride to work and don't feel like riding back home I can put it on the bus!

Can't avoid being sweaty but use plenty of deodorant to minimize the smell. Laughing Fortunately, it's pretty casual around here and I don't have to dress up.

In the Arizona heat you do that 23-mile roundtrip? That's incredible! Don't think that you can't learn to drive at age 55 or any age. BTW, where do you work that they let you "park" your bike next to your cubicle?

Hey, Dan, I'm almost 56 and still doing it. Not interested in driving and if I get to the point I can't ride anymore, I'll retire. I work for a steel fabricator and I've got a good-sized office and can park my bike in it. Management thinks it's cool that I ride. Maybe that makes them look good "environmentally!" One employee in a hundred rides a bike. Laughing

Dave,

Finally get to meet you in person albeit a photo. Very Happy

My office should be as neat as yours! Crying or Very sad

I would agree that biking 23 miles a day in that heat at your age is pushing the envelope - how about a motor bike at least? Idea

Pretty soon it's going to be more than one in a hundred riding bikes to work! I'm beginning to see them on L.A. streets in droves.

You were certainly ahead of your time!

Keep it up as long as you can.

Great picture.
