I wish to make an amendment to a prior post. Having seen a side rollsign for GMC T6H-5309A's as put up on eBay, the 1972-74 designation for the Elmhurst crosstown route #16, later Q89, was actually QM16, despite it (again) not even going through Manhattan (except for it then being emanated from 54th Street depot) - here too you have a multiple duplication, this time of the nomenclature for then-Green Bus Lines', now MTA Bus', Neponsit-Midtown express route. |

I guess the QM-15 and 16 had to come out of 54th Street Depot since there was no longer the FACC Northern Blvd and 77th garage.
Does anyone know when that closed up? IIRC it became a car dealership, then torn down for a strip mall. |

That's correct; at that time (or at least up to the opening of Hudson Depot) 54th Street housed both 15's and 16's (M15, QM15, M16, QM16 as designated from 1972 to 1974). |

Fifth Avenue Coach's 76th Street and Northern Blvd. depot was closed by MaBSTOA on December 22, 1963 and routes 15, Jackson Heights and 16, Elmhurst Crosstown were transferred to the former New York City Omnibus depot on 54th Street and Ninth Avenue.
The buses stored at 76 & Northern used by routes 15 & 16 were transferred to other depots since MaBSTOA's strategy was to keep buses of the same type together, i.e.... TDH 5104s grouped with other 5104s.
76 & Northern had mostly 5104s and some TDH 4509s and one TDH 5102.
Once the transfer was done, TDH 4510s were used on routes 15 and 16 until the arrival of the GM new looks in the 5200 and 5300 number series.
BTW, the lone TDH 5401, #2500, used by route 15 was taken to Westchester Street Transportation. |

The depot only lasted about a year and a half after the takeover. Guess it was too small for Mabstoa/NYC transit to keep it operating. |
