STAFF REPORTER
A man faces three charges after a TTC bus driver was assaulted and threatened on Eglinton Ave. early this morning.
The incident began around midnight when a passenger got into an argument with the driver on the westbound Eglinton bus at Mount Pleasant Rd., said Toronto police Staff Sgt. Dan Nealon.
Nealon said the passenger threatened the driver with a knife, and then damaged the bus doors as he fled.
Police were called in to search the area, and arrested a suspect one block away, near Soudan Ave., a short time later, Nealon said.
The driver wasn’t hurt. No weapon was recovered.
Shaun Keddy, 25, of Toronto, was charged with threatening bodily harm, assault, and mischief. He was scheduled to appear in court today.
A Star investigation earlier this year found that TTC drivers are regularly traumatized by violent encounters with riders, and suffer post-traumatic stress disorders at a rate four times more frequent than Toronto police officers. |
