A further enhancement can be added to bus signal priority that just extends the green light or shortens the red light.

An extra signal phase for the bus can be inserted into the phase sequence of some intersections only as needed, for example to let the bus through before "leading" or "advance" left turns are accommodated. It would require that the bus be first in line or in its own lane.

Simple example:
Normal -- main street, side street, left turns, main street, side street, etc.

Bus priority -- main street, side street, bus, left turns, main street, side, etc.

This might not work with some coordinated signal systems but can be almost unnoticeable with signals that work independently (free).
