Though we have discussed this in the past, I,personally, have always wondered just why the "batwings"were eventually eliminated from the "Em-Tee-Yay" fleet; surely, the extra revenue from those huge illuminated ads would have been "sweet music" indeed to an agency that was forever crying "poverty".

It would have been quite interesting, to say the least, had the RTS been equipped with batwings..........

Eliminating the extra ad frames behind the rear wheels in 1968-69 certainly didn't help them financially, for sure . . .

W.B.:

Good point; agreed 100%.

That one (regarding the elimination of the ad frames behind the rear wheels) made no sense at all, especially when some of the "indy" carriers still utilized them for many years afterwards............

This 1974 photo shows MSBA Fishbowl #425 also displaying the ad frame behind the rear wheel (from the nycsubway.org photo archives, it is interesting to see that not all of their buses carried these ad frame)

Also note the "M" medallion............

Quite interesting.....

This photo (taken up in "da Bronx", back in '72) of "CLUB TRANSPORTATION" Fishbowl #456 is interesting; not only does the bus carry an ad frame behind the rear wheel, the other ad frames on the side are all of the same dimension...........

"CLUB TRANSPORT" garage, 1981.

Note empty ad racks; also, look closely at Fishbowl #498.

It appears that this was a first-generation Fishbowl which has had its original markers altered...........

From studying the photos in the nycsubway.org "CLUB TRANSPORTATION" gallery, it appears that, sometime in the mid-70's, the ad frames behind the rear wheels were no longer being used.

This photo from 1982 shows Fishbowl #450 still carrying the ad frame behind the rear wheel, which, apparently, is no longer being used...........

Leaving "da Bronx" for a moment, we now make a trip far downtown for this view of "AVENUE B" Fishbowl #514, snapped back in 1976...........

Here's "PELHAM PARKWAY EXPRESS" suburban "Dangerfield" #508 (1972); note that the only offside ad frames are located both in front of and to the rear of the rear wheel.........

Here are two photos (1980/1981) of "INTER-COUNTY MOTOR COACH" Fishbowls, both carrying ad frames behind the rear wheel (and both displaying ads)............
