On my way home from work this evening, I spotted NJT 5225 (a 2009 NABI 416) headed NB on US 1 just north of NJ 18. The unit was OOS, and the front & side destination signs were lighted but blank (just large orange rectangles). At first, I didn't recognize this bus. I'm somewhat familiar with the "first generation" NABI 416's operated by SEPTA and DAR, but in my Central NJ and NYC "territories" I don't often see NABI's (it's rather like seeing a penguin eating at your backyard bird feeder). The new NABI's use small round "projector beam" headlamps and turn signals, and their appearance reminded me a bit of a squared off Nova LFS. (I do see Nova LFS's running in Rutgers University Campus Bus Service, and they look very sharp in the red and white "Scarlet Knight" livery).
I suppose the NJT Flx Metros and Nova RTS's will be ready for a "curtain call" soon. |
