ABQ RIDE has touch tapes on their Thomas/Dennis SLF200 buses, except for bus 436, which are all buttons. The rest of the fleet (Neoplans and New Flyers) have pull cords, although the New Flyer buses also have buttons next to the rear exit doors. The now-retired TMC RTS buses also had touch tapes between the windows and along the ceiling.

Does anyone know how much more do touch tapes cost compared to pull cords? I am personally more used to the pull cords, however, the touch tapes are more resistant to vandalism.

The touch-tapes tend to wear out and are costly to replace/repair. Plus, you don't know that they're not working until someone starts yelling at you to "OPEN THE M-F BACK DOOR!!"

Add to this the fact that lots of our fellow bus drivers are physically unable to write up a service ticket and you have a recurring problem...
