Pictured traveling south on Fifth Avenue and passing one of the many turn of the century mansions that dotted Manhattan's most elegant thoroughfare is a real Fifth Avenue Coach (also known as Fifth Avenue Stage Lines) circa 1900.

Founded in 1885, the company ran horse drawn stages until its first motorized vehicles in 1907 with the exception of a short period of trial with battery cars around 1900.

At the behest of its very wealthy segment of New York society, no traction lines were ever permitted on Fifth Avenue.
