There has been a lively and ongoing debate at Canadian Discussion concerning restricted bus photography.
I thought that my comments below might be of interest here as well.
"This past May, I was in Vancouver awaiting a tour bus at the port terminal and took a number of photos (one below) being completely unaware that it might have been a security violation - there were no signs prohibiting photography.
Picture taking of certain sensitive areas during time of war (and that's what 9/11 brought upon us) is nothing new.
I was only a kid, but I remember vividly the many signs on all the bridges leading to Manhattan during World War II warning that taking pictures was strictly prohibited.
I could understand the reasons in the cases with the bridges because from certain vantage points you could actually get an aerial shot of the island - but I'm not really sure of what harm it would be to take pictures of buses - a terrorist doesn't need a photo of a bus or of a depot or terminal to figure out how to exact damage upon them!
I'm sure the suicide bombers that have destroyed so many Israeli buses and taken so many lives over the years did so without the need of a picture!"
