Atlantic Express, I believe, does send minibuses on the Northern State, but this seems to have been a coach. I am sorry the driver was killed.

Yes it was a coach. It messed up rush hour traffic all over the north shore. Both sides of the Northern State Parkway were shut down. One lane E/b wasn't opened until 8:30 AM. The LIE and Jericho Turnpike were turned into parking lots.

Fatal bus crash on Northern State Pkwy
Bus driver ejected from bus & crushed to death

(Roslyn - WABC, May 21, 2007) - The driver of an Atlantic Express charter bus was killed when the bus flipped into the westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway in Roslyn Sunday night.

Police say the driver, 49-year-old Scott Forster of Staten Island, apparently lost control just west of Exit 28 near Willis Avenue in Roslyn Heights at around 11:20 p.m. They say the bus careened onto the shoulder, struck a speed limit sign, and then re-entered the roadway and slammed into the concrete median.

Authorities say the force of the collision flipped the bus onto its side, ejecting the driver from his seat and under the bus, where he was crushed.

Forster was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person on the bus.

The back of the bus was crushed against the center divider and it had overturned onto its left side, officials said. Parts of the divider had been destroyed by the impact.

Buses are not permitted on the parkway, and it was unclear how the bus entered or why it was there. That is under investigation by the New York State Police.

Officials at Atlantic Express, based in Newark, were not available to comment.
