Effective December 4th, Megabus will be modifying its New York-Buffalo-Toronto route to add stops in Syracuse (Regional Transportation Center), Rochester (suburban Eastview Mall) and Niagara Falls ON (bus terminal). A fifth daily trip will be added in each direction, and overnight trips will be operated in both directions with a 5:45 a.m. arrival in the destination city.
It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on Amtrak and the other intercity bus companies. I think Megabus will do very well in Syracuse and Rochester with the high number of college students in both towns. I'm also looking forward to seeing the new Van Hool double-decker coaches in town (supposedly they are already being used for the current NY-Buffalo run). |

I saw a NEON bus, which is similar in service concept to Megabus and they were using Prevost equipment. Also saw a Megabus using conventional Prevost equipment as well when I was in Buffalo on Sept. 3. Also a bus still in full Vermont Transit livery and one in Carolina Trailways dress as well. There is never a dull moment in Buffalo's Metropolitan Transportation Center at 181 Ellicott Street, home of the NFTA. Watch the arrivals and departures and you can see some very interesting equipment. |

Effective June 29th, Megabus reduced service on its M24 New York-Toronto route from five daily round trips to four. Syracuse service was reduced from four to three departures in each direction, and service to and from Rochester (technically Eastview Mall in suburban Victor) was reduced from four trips daily to only one departure each way. Maybe Trailways and Greyhound are fighting back in this corridor - based on observation, Greyhound is running its new Prevosts almost exclusively on its competing runs. |
