Our second stop on our Alaskan sojourn was the small hamlet of Skagway -population - a handful of thousands and located not far south of the mouth of Glacier Bay.

This is a tourist trap if I've ever seen one! (a BLT on toast for $11.00, and it was a lousy sandwich!).

Anyway, the town has one redeeming feature and that is the Skagway Street Car Company (now operating replicas of early thirties buses as seen in photos 2 and 3 below).

However, replicas were not always the story and from the mid ninties to the early 2000's the company operated several original mid thirties Whites that were built for Yellowstone National Park as seen in the bottom photo.

They were purchased from and collector and subsequently sold back to Yellowstone where they were refurbished and still operate today.

The replicas are cute but I think the front ends are a bit 'wimpy' looking - I could have done much better!

Note the Coast Guard Cutter in the top photo escorting us to our dockage (zoom in on the image and you'll also note the Guardsman at the bow with machine gun in hand - I guess they were expecting a few Somalians!).

Enjoy!

Mr "L" -

The replicas are delightful! What's wrong with the replicas? (I've been aware of the "Yellowstone" Whites for a long while.) What would it
take to make you happy? Would you buy some today, if I can make it right? (You may have guessed I have done sales! <G>)

From my "Options List" in the Catalog, I'd suggest a chromed shell housing around the radiator intake. Chromed intake screen. Maybe
some (I'll guess needless, but ornamental) chromed vents on side of "hood"...

Gotta' use replicas of the old, large "Golden Glow" style head lamps. These days, use of halogen bulbs would produce a bright lighting...
Oh, maybe some "ICC" markers at front edge of roof?

The replica is quite large for an example of a coach of the era...

(BTW. Menu note? Better, perhaps, featured items with local content? Char-Broiled Moose Burgers? Grilled Salmon? King Crab Salad?)

.................Vern...............
