As a result of the incident with the Maersk Alabama, it seems to me that our merchant ships operating in the Indian Ocean need more security, including ex Navy SEALS trained to shoot to kill if necessary in the case of the pirates who tried to take the ship. Back up the Navy's surface ships with fully armed P3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft prepared to start sinking the mother ships with all hands if necessary. I mean the mother ships used by the pirates to carry their speedboats in which they raid other ships. It seems like the merchant ships would be better off in convoys with Navy ships escorting them in those waters. As a good measure base a squadron or two of Air Force B-52s in Diego Garcia ready to carpet bomb Somalia in event the pirates grab an execute an American crew. These are rabid animals the Navy is dealing with. As for the P3 Orions, several squadrons of the 4 engine turboprops would be assigned several sets of zones to patrol and each aircraft would be fully armed! This piracy on the high seas needs to be stopped by whatever means is necessary. By adding air assets to the mix, I think there would be enough force to blow Somalia off the map if necessary. That whole country seems to belong to Al Qaida and should be treated accodingly, above all LETS PROTECT THE SHIPS AND STOP SCREWING AROUND WITH THESE PATHETIC EXCUSES OF PEOPLE.

Dieseljim -

It would be nice if it was a multi- national force working on it. Just how many global messes have to be fixed by Uncle Sam forces?
The urgent problems felt by vessels of many other nations. It clearly needs much more than tasteful debate, far away from all of it
at a New York base...
