Yahoo News currently has an interesting Associated Press story about the withdrawal of "camellos" from the streets of Havana. I had never heard about them before. Apparently, when Russia ceased supplying Cuba with cheap fuel twenty years ago, the Cuban regime constructed a long passenger compartment pulled by a tractor, 58 plastic seats, but a squeeze capacity of about 400. Others operate in other cities, but the Havana ones are being replaced by buses from China. To find this article, go to Yahoo News and search for camellos or Havana bus. The current link is

I just found photos of them on Flickr.com by typing in keywords havana camello. What beasts. I'm glad they're not on Bx12.

Supposedly, this is what they look like.

Photo for informative purposes only.

I'd like to see one of these negotiating a sharp turn.

Didn't Havana, Cuba also buy a bunch of GMD "new Look" buses from Montreal? Like any GM "old Looks' that may still be running around down there, these buses would look quite at home.
