W.B,:
The nearest PSNJ/TNJ garage to where I live was the now-demolished Union City garage (known to locals as "the carbarns", and closed by NJT aroind1993.
This was an ll"Gee-Em" facility util around 1976/1977, when the massive influx of NJDOT "Dangerfield" began arriving.
The last Old Looks (4509s) vanished around 1973, when the "#17", which I grew up with, was discontinued.
In later years, there were still some Fishbowls around, but it was, by then, mostly Metro "Bs" and "Dangerfields".
By the time the RTS began arriving, the "carbarns" were already closed, and sold for use as a DPW facility.
A number of local routes were based out of this historic facility; some of the bays still hd streetcar rails in place.
I took a number of photos here, back in 1989.............and I'm sure glad I did so

Speaking of the PS/TNJ garage in Union City.......
A large paint shop was on the premises note the unusual paint scheme on these Fishbowls; they were specially painted for the then-new PS "{ARK-RIDE" service, in the late 60s.
Mom and I were lucky enough to see one of thes hndsomee buses just emerging from the paint shop, circa-1969!

I have a memory of that Coward Shoe store. And I may've said this before, at the Chemical Bank at 65th, their depository sign, when I passed it, read as 'DEFOSITOPY'. |

The M-104 bus was "soived" at Amsterdam. The 7 Broadway/Columbus/Lenox route was housed at 146th Street depot (as it is today at Mother Hale), as was the 10 Eighth Avenue/Central Park West. The 20 57th Street Crosstown (became M28 in 1974) and M-103 59th Street Crosstown were situated at 54th Street depot. The M-7 65th Street Crosstown was at 126th Street depot. But the one that took the cake in terms of pingponging from one depot to another was the 11 Ninth and Amsterdam Avenues route. Between 1962 and 1980, they were at (in order of stationing) 100th Street, 54th Street, Amsterdam (for a few months in 1965), 132nd Street and, for many years starting in September 1972, Hudson depot. It was with the move to 132nd in June 1965 that the 11's northern terminus was extended from La Salle Street to 132nd Street and Broadway - not coincidentally, adjuacent to that depot. |

In the 1970's alone, the route was based out of three different depots: 146th Street, 100th Street, and (after their renumberings as M34, M35 and Bx21) 132nd Street.
If "Dangerfields" ever were on the route, they would have been after the renumberings and reassignment to 132nd Street. Interesting there were no photos of that route taken after the 1974 renumberings. |

I think 'MaBSTOA 15', in the past, put up an old picture of a Yellow 740 running on the TB route "way back when." A bus which, by its number, was assigned out of 146th Street which was the route's original home. |

But notice . . . no pictures taken in those areas after the changeover and renumberings. If this was the Manhattan-Astoria leg, that route would have, after July 1 of that year, become M35. |
