Cyberider:

I wish the original streamlined cars survived; they reminded me of the tin mechanical cog/incline railway toys made by Technofix and Marx in the late 50s and 1960s..I have a few sets displayed today! Wink

EXCELLENT photos, history, etc.............

The vintage streamlined railcars remind me of those wind-ups from Technofix and Marx, so long ago! Very Happy

Perhaps the most unique "funicular"in the world is Israel's "Carmelit", which is a most unusual combination of incline and "subway".

This is an iteresting system; there is a vintage photo from 1959 here, showing the original cars.............

On this day in 1936........

Brooklyn's B&QT begins operating its first PCCs (St Louis) on the Smith St.-Coney Island line.

PCCs would serve several Brooklyn routes until all streetcar service ended in late 1956...........

Futher...........

Had then-Mayor LaGuardia (who ws a strong opponent of streetcars and elevated railway lines ) not had sp much power, the B&QT would have placed another large order for PCCs, as replace much of the older streetcar fleet.

It should also be noted that, though there were 100 PCCs on the roster, not all were stillin active service when the end came in 1956..........

,,,,had Atlanta held onto its streetcars in the postwar era, IMHO, It hink that, atsome point, PCCs would have replaced the older rolling stock................
